Q: Why do you charge a membership fee?

A: Charles A. Brown High Alumni Association is a non-profit organization that receives no financial assistance from the city, state or federal government. All Charles A. Brown High Alumni Association executive members are strictly volunteers, and our members’ fees go directly to providing them with services and events to promote our organization.

Q: Who is eligible to become a member?

A: Charles A. Brown High Alumni Association defines Alumni as anyone who attended, graduated, or was a member of the faculty or staff at Charles A. Brown High School during the years it operated as a High School 1962-1982.

Q: How can I become more involved with your association?

A: If you are interested in becoming more involved with Charles A. Brown High Alumni Association we encourage you to contact an executive member. We are always looking for volunteers for a variety of different committees.

Q: Where and how often does the Alumni Association meet?

A:  Meeting are held monthly at various local area locations to plan and execute events. Meeting time and place will be posted in the event calendar, “So check back often.”

By Laws

By Laws of Charles A. Brown High Alumni Association

                                                                   Article I
                                                                    (Name)

The name of this association has been established as Charles A. Brown High Alumni Association (CABHAA).

                                                                   Article II
                                                                (Membership)

a.  Active Membership.  The Association’s members shall include graduates and/or former attendees of Charles A. Brown High School, teachers of Charles A. Brown High School ( past and present) and administrators (past and present).

b.  Voting.  Each active member shall have the privilege of voting, making motions and debating for election of officers (no proxies).

c.  Quorum.  Nine members present at the call of a meeting shall constitute a quorum.

Article III
(Assessment)

a.  The annual assessment required for membership in the association is $25.00, to be paid in full by March of each year.

Article IV
(Meetings)

a.  Monthly Meetings.  Monthly meetings shall be held on the second Thursday of each month.  The President may call additional meetings as business may require.

b.  Meetings shall be called at 6:00 PM.

c.  Rober’t Rules of Order shall govern all meetings.

Article V
(Officers)

a.  Officers.  The elective officers of this association shall be a president, vice-president, recording secretary, treasurer, assistant secretary, business management committee and chaplain.  Other officers and chairpersons may be established and appointed by officers in charge or elected by the members of the association at any regular meeting.

b.  Term.  Election shall take place in the month of December and all officers shall take office at the first meeting in January and shall serve a term of two (2) years.  Officers may be re-elected(see amendment); however, an election must be held to determine this.

c.  In the event an officer can not fulfill their duties, a special election shall be called.

Article VI
(Special Offerings)

a.  If a committee member is ill for more than a week and remains at home, or is ill for more than a week and confined to a hospital, a card will be sent on behalf of the association.

b.  In the event of the death of a committee member, a floral will be sent.  In the event of the death of a committee member’s immediate family (mother, father, husband, wife, or child only), a card will be sent on behalf of the association.

c.  In the case of sickness or emergency, notify the President or a committee member.

Article VII
(Financial Policy)

a.  All checks will be signed by two of the three (3) officers signatures listed (president, secretary, or treasurer).

b.  The committee shall appoint an audit committee prior to election of new officers.  The audit committee shall consist of three (3) members, excluding those authorized to sign checks, and be charged with the responsibility of reviewing the treasurer’s reports and records.  Results will be presented at the next scheduled meeting.

Article VIII
(Amendments)

a.  These Bylaws may be amended by the committee with the approval by a majority of the membership at two (2) consecutive meetings.

Article IX
(Progression of Possession)

a.  Should the Alumni Association cease to exist for whatever reason, any monies in the treasury at the time shall be donated to an Educational Fund.
