TTC Palmer Campus Celebrates the Heritage of the Eastside Community for Spirit Week 2012
Trident Technical College’s Palmer Campus celebrated the heritage of the Eastside Community and the 50th anniversary of the former C.A. Brown High School as part of Spirit Week 2012, held at the downtown Charleston campus on Oct. 22-26. Highlighting the week was a special presentation from the Preservation Society of Charleston to the former C.A. Brown High School on the campus’s Eastside Day on Thursday, Oct. 25. Eastside Day kicked off with a parade led by C.A. Brown High School Alumni and the band from the Military Magnet Academy. Included in the parade were cars and floats from C.A. Brown High School, neighborhood associations and Trident Technical College. Following the parade, the Preservation Society of Charleston unveiled a Civil Rights Historical Marker for the former C.A. Brown High School, now the home of TTC’s Palmer Campus. Several alumni and friends of C.A. Brown High School attended the unveiling ceremony, including the son of C.A. Brown, C.A. Brown, Jr. The C.A. Brown High School Alumni Association also presented a $500 scholarship to TTC student Shanae Green. The funds for the scholarship were raised from a campaign that commemorated the occasion with scripted bricks that were laid in a paver around the monument. Click link for full article.
